ADHESIVE TAPE Use acetone or non-oily nail polisher remover
ALCOHOL See spirits
AMMONIA Try lemon juice or white vinegar
ANIMAL STAINS See vomit
B
BLOOD Sponge fresh stains immediately with cold salt water then soak with warm enzyme detergent solution
BUTTER See grease

CANDLE WAX Scrape off as much as possible with a spoon or a blunt knife. To melt remainder, place s sheet of blotting paper over fabric and press a warm iron gently until wax is absorbed. To remove any remaining color, dab methylated spirit
CARBON PAPER Dab methylated spirit
CHEWING GUM Use Hollaway Chewing Gum Remover. It freezes the deposit so that it breaks up and can be cleared.
CHOCOLATE/COCOA Use Enzyme detergent or borax solution
COFFEE Use borax or peroxide solution. Loosen dried in stains with glycerin first
D
DYE Use enzyme detergent for washables and methylated spirit for non-washables
EGG See blood
FAECES See vomit
FELT PEN See ink
FRUIT JUICE Use peroxide borax solution
G
GREASE Scrape off as much as possible and wash in hot water
GRASS STAINS Recommend light washing. For stubborn stains, dab methylated spirit
H
HAIR LACQUER Remove with water, otherwise use methylated spirit
INK Use methylated spirit
JAM See fruit juice
L
LEAD PENCIL Use rubber
N
NAIL VARNISH Use non-oily nail polish remover
NICOTINE Use eucalyptus oil or methylated spirit
O
OIL See grease
P
PAINTS For enamel and oil paints, use paint remover or turpentine. For cellulose paint, use acetone. For fresh emulsion stain use water
Died in stains try methylated spirit
PERFUME Rinse immediately with water. Use glycerin solution (equal parts glycerin and warm water) for dried up stains.
PERSPIRATION Try enzyme detergent or ammonia

RUST MARKS Try lemon juice then rinse. Alternatively use a rust remover
SPIRIT/SYRUP Use detergent
TEA See coffee
TOMATO See fruit juice
U
URINE Rinse in cold water immediately. Dried stains should first be soaked in an enzyme detergent
V
VOMIT Remove surface deposit first then rinse well. Another alternative is to soak enzyme detergent.
W
WATER Remove rain spots on felt, velvet and taffeta by holding in steam from boiling kettle
