Rumors spread around and a reporter decided to ran a special report on the famous meat dumpling. Later the investigation revealed a horrendous dark tales. The meats were from dead bodies after autopsy and dumped off by the mortuary staff – whom happened to be owner’s brother.
Those dead bodies were all from accident and emergency cases which were not claimed by immediate family, friends or relatives. The news shocked the local community and both brothers and sister was immediately put on house arrest until further investigation.
I do not know about the locals but when we were in Shanghai in 2004, we were quite hesitant to eat the meat dumpling shop at the local eateries. The meat inside the dumpling was questionable, where the meat does came from, pigs or human meat. Anyway my mum wanted to eat the dumpling as she has this habit of having supper before sleep.
I bought two meat dumpling from a big store located in one of the “must visit” tourist area, the locals were queuing for them. I believe it should be safe for consumption.
