Inner beauty takes a long time to discover unlike outer beauty which is immediately apparent to the most casual observer; inner beauty can be fully appreciated to only those who get to know us long enough. It takes much time for inner beauty to impact and when it does, we see that person through new eyes. Many of us have had the experience of finding someone attractive even though we know they are actually not the good-looking type but their personality, kindness and goodness seems to project through.
The most wonderful thing about inner beauty is that it can endure through time. Outer beauty does not last and every one of us knows that. All the creams over the cosmetics counter cannot erase or shield the wrinkles on our faces through the passing of time. But there is no time limitation to courage, kindness, sense of humor, helpfulness and generosity. These lasts forever. As time goes by, we hardly can recall the look but we recollect their acts of good deeds, kind words and thoughts. Outer beauty makes a first impression and inner beauty makes a lasting impression. In his book, Learning from Wonderful Lives, Cambridge University psychologist, Dr Nick Baylis writes “We’d be making a great mistake to judge ourselves by the way we look, because that’s only a fraction of what true beauty is all about.” Dr Nick Baylis writes: “I always thought how pleasing it would feel to be really beautiful – head-turningly handsome – so that woman whose admiration I sought would recoil slightly in open-mouthed awe, which is what I seemed to do when confronted by some stunning.”
So to those who have inner beauty, do not despair as there is hope, pursue beauty by displaying a good attitude to living life every moment by acts of kindness and thinking good thoughts about others.
